Get Bastion running locally in less than 5 minutes. You can start in mock mode (no database required) or connect to a real CockroachDB cluster.
1. Install
Install the Bastion memory library:
pip install git+https://github.com/dgboy-ai/Bastion.git
2. Mock Mode (No Database)
Test immediately with in-memory storage:
python -c "from bastion import BastionMemory; mem = BastionMemory('test', mock=True); mem.store('fact', 'Hello Bastion'); results = mem.search('Hello'); print(f'Found {len(results)} memories')"
3. Real CockroachDB
Connect to a CockroachDB cluster:
export BASTION_CONN="postgresql://user:pass@host:26257/bastion_db?sslmode=verify-full"
python -m bastion.mcp_server --transport http --port 9997
4. MCP Client Setup
Connect from Claude Desktop, Cursor, or VS Code:
{
"mcpServers": {
"bastion": {
"command": "python",
"args": ["-m", "bastion.mcp_server", "--mock"],
"env": { "BASTION_MOCK": "true" }
}
}
}
5. Dashboard
Launch the live dashboard to see memories, graphs, and audit trails:
cd dashboard
npm install
npm run dev
